When you are looking for the best Woodlands area golf courses, the choice may seem a bit staggering. The Woodlands is home to some of the best public and private courses in the Houston area. But, don’t feel overwhelmed, we’ve narrowed it down to a field of 5 of the best local golf courses.
— The Woodlands Country Club: This private club offers not 1, but 3 courses. The 27-hole Arnold Palmer Course (designed by Arnold Palmer) features mounds and hills and is surrounded by mature pine trees. Facilities also include a clubhouse with dining and a pro shop. The 18-hole Tournament Course, located in the village of Grogan’s Mill incorporates lakes, ponds, and natural trees. It was designed by Robert von Hagge and hosts the Insperity Invitational on the Champion’s Tour. Lastly, the 18-hole Gary Player Course located in the village of Sterling Ridge, was designed by Gary Player. This beautiful course benefits from water features on 11 of the holes. — The Golf Trails of the Woodlands: These private courses are also available to guests of The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center. The Oaks Golf Course (originally designed by Joe Lee and Robert von Hagge, redesigned by Jay Moorish and Associates) features 18 holes with oak tree-lined fairways and TifEagle greens. The Panther Trail Golf Course (originally designed by Joe Lee and Robert von Hagge, redesigned by Roy Case) offers 18-holes, each with 4 tee placements. The 18th hole is considered the “best par 4 in Houston”.
— Augusta Pines Golf Club: This public course is located in nearby Spring, TX. Designed by Tour 18, Inc, this 18-hole course showcases mature pines, dogwood trees, and oak trees. The club also has a state-of-the-art practice facility, pro shop, and bar and grill.
— The Club at Carlton Woods: This private club is one of only two courses in the US to include courses designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Fazio. Amenities include teaching facilities, pro shop, and two clubhouses. Ranked in the top ten courses in Texas and one of the top 175 courses in the US.
— Windrose Golf Club: Also located in Spring, TX, this 18-hole public course offers 4 tee settings at each hole. Set amongst oak trees, pine trees, and wetlands, this course is staffed by PGA professionals and includes a golf shop and dining facilities.
